Religious Freedom, Rights, and the Justice Systems
Description: Prof. SpearIt and Prof. Souaiaia will lead a 60-minute colloquium focusing on how cultural and religious issues impact criminal cases from arrest to post-conviction. The program is intended to help legal practitioners, especially criminal defense and plaintiff’s attorneys, evaluate claims of infringement on religious freedom, and understand the post-conviction and civil claims frequently filed by religious incarcerated persons. Information presented in this session will focus on Islam and Muslims, but information can be adapted and applied to individuals adhering to other cultures and religions.
